Shane loves boating! Below are some of his favorite destinations, hints, and tips.
The starting point for most destinations is the Cape Coral Yacht Basin, located at the edge of southeast Cape Coral.

Cabbage Key

Cabbage Key is a great place to go to get away from the mainland. It is an island that has a restaurant on it as well as accommodations. You can rent rooms in the main building or rent one of the homes on the island. Or if you choose to, you can hook up to the shore power and stay on your boat at the dock for a fee. We love going to cabbage key, taking clients and friends .

It is a great environment and the people are so friendly. The food is great also. Have a Cheese Burger in Paradise. (I've heard Jimmy Buffet wrote Cheese Burger in Paradise sitting at the bar.) There is a full bar and if you go into the rear dining area you will see thousands and thousands of dollars hanging on the walls and ceiling where past visitors have left their mark. Down by the water is the gift shop. You can buy all kinds of cool things there.

Something else to check out is the water tower on the island, just to the right of the restaurant. You have to climb several flights of stairs, but well worth the view. I cannot put the view into words, you need to see it for your self.

How do I get there?

This is easy. Coming from Cape Coral Yacht Club, get into the ICW and head towards the mouth of the river. Go through the slow zone, when it says to resume normal speed, go almost straight ahead, you will see a green marker this this is the opening of the miserable mile as some people call it. Proceed staying in the channel do not go out side the channel or you will run aground, it is very, very shallow outside the channel. Follow the ICW into Pine Island Sound. You will have the back side of Sanibel on your left. Keep following the ICW. You will then pass Captiva Island on your Left and North Captiva Island on your left. You will see a pass called Cativa Pass. The next island up is Cayo Costa Island. Keep following the ICW. Look for red marker “58”, immediately to your left is Cabbage Key. The channel into cabbage Key is well marked. When you get up to the dock, the dock master will direct you where to go and help you park your vessel.
